The evening of 13 April 2013, the International Award for Public Art Presentation Ceremony and Public Art Forum was held. Lewis Biggs, the president of Public Art Award jury, hosted the forum.
Prof. Lu Xiaobo, Dean of Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, commented on this forum. He said,” My first impression of the forum is the forum is beyond my imagination, and we learn a lot. I think this is a very positive international forum. Under the theme of public art everyone gathered together here. This forum is a cross-regional, cross-cultural, interdisciplinary one rather than an amusing forum. This forum gives me better knowledge and understanding of generation of produce public art, development status and trends. I have done a lot, paid much attention to and experienced a lot of public art, especially when I was in foreign countries, but I have gained much more in this forum.”
Besides, we shared a lot of good stories and academic views. First the forum hasl a high starting point. The second is multi-angle and broaden horizons. Some commentators said earlier our view was more concerned about the social, public art, social issues, social development, and urban development. We also shared a lot of cases by individual artists. I think during the forum, instead of in a small circle to discuss a narrow topic, the mind is very open , the form is what we need.”
“The forum academic also very strong especially in the view of the similarities and differences between East and West comparison and confrontation. The very active discussion is another a great feature of the forum. The forum is great significant for China's urban construction and social construction. In particular, during the process of urbanization in China, we have to change the city as an indicator of economic development mode shift to cultural construction, improve the overall quality of life, in which the role of public art is very important.”
“Shall we continue to repeat the old Westerners go? Are we still in the original matter-on upgrade? I think we should aim at the future and aim at a new starting stage of development. Here I want to emphasize ecological civilization and information culture. Also, I would like on behalf of all the participants sincerely hope that such forums would continue. I believe it will have a strong vitality and influence. " |
