The evening of 13 April 2013, the International Award for Public Art Presentation Ceremony and Public Art Forum was held. Lewis Biggs, the president of Public Art Award jury, hosted the forum.
Professor Cao Yijiang,Dean of College of Arts and Humanities of China Academy of Art , hosted "Metro public art” sub-forum. He concluded: "We have discussed the metro public art from three perspectives. Firstly, how to make public art melt into the overall subway construction rather than an extra decoration and how to make public art become a part of functional aspects in the subway construction? Secondly, The examples of Shanghai Metro, London Metro and Peter's glass art are mainly about how to bring art into a limited restricted space? . The third one is theoretical aspect, which was talked by Professor Liu Yueh mainly on the life aesthetics. It related with the value of public art. All the speeches are very interesting.”
“This forum gave me a great inspiration. In most of time, arts are considered as a way to enrich the public environment, but actually this kind of definition won’t be able to reflect the deeper value of arts. I believe that when art provides us with beauty, it also constantly shapes our sensitivity and provides us a very advanced technical methods to think, create and deal with daily life. We can feel this from the case of Osaka. Although professor Hirokawa and Tamsin did not use the concept of public art, but from their talk, I felt that public art is not an additive, but a way to solve our technical problems, a kind of wisdom and creative tool,to solve our energy, environmental protection, security and life issues. In other words, the public art we talking about is an organic combination of art, science, and our daily life. I think the Chinese explanation of public art is Organic Art in the entire human environment.’’ |
