April 13, 2013 13:00 pm, " public art in beautiful countryside" sub-forum was held in the VIP building of Shanghai Gu Cun Park Hotel. Professor Zhang Xiaoling, Vice President of China National Academy of Art chaired the forum. American artist Mr. Ta-coumba Aiken talked about his creative experience.
In Africa, Mr. Aiken learnt that art could be three-dimension. He made many public art works including "Children's World" in Africa, a Javanese restaurant paying the respects to the local culture, a passageway connecting sky and earth, the local car park transformation, publication covers with full of historical sense, "hand in hand" wall painting in children's playground, vodka posters, 101 peanuts sculpture, movable public art projects and so on. These works have variety of styles and different effects according to the different environment, culture, and space.
Mr. Aiken used his own experience to tell the audience that all public art is the result of cooperation. He said: "The artist and the student must learn how to cooperate. The creation of public art must cooperate with the relevant government agencies, to know what requirements they have and what are their thoughts. Moreover, the cooperation always let us crash out a lot of new ideas. "
