April 13, 2013 13:00 pm, " public art in beautiful countryside" sub-forum was held in the VIP building of Shanghai Gu Cun Park Hotel. Professor Zhang Xiaoling, Vice President of China National Academy of Art chaired the forum. Professor Pan Li from Fine Art College of Shanghai University gave a speech entitled " The culture of “Place making”.
Professor Pan Li introduced a rural public art project that was organized by Fine Art College of Shanghai University in Yuhuan County, Zhejiang Province. He talked about how the project relying on Fine Art College , using of local materials and wasted wood to create cartoon characters and enhance the cultural atmosphere. He particularly mentioned the Japanese "one village, one product" concept, and detail information of the transformation of “Ganhe”, “kanmen”, “Sameng” towns in Yuhuan.
When he talked about the idea of "Place making", the Professor Pan Li said: " the theme of place making in public art certainly is not that outlander artist give alms for a certain place or a symbolic icon added from outside power, but rather use it as an incentive mechanism to activate local power. Only in this way, the concept of “Place making” in public art can really have an ongoing development and truly benefit the local. " |
