April 13, 2013 13:00 pm, " Public Art in Beautiful Countryside" sub-forum was held in the VIP building of Shanghai Gu Cun Park Hotel. Professor Zhang Xiaoling, Vice President of China National Academy of Art chaired the forum. After the guest speakers, Mr. John McCormack, Director New Zealand Starkwhite Art Institutions, summarized " Public Art in Beautiful Countryside " sub-forum.
Mr. John McCormack said: "The first speaker mentioned that the government of Zhejiang province actively promote the project of the beautiful countryside. This is a good combination of bottom-up and top-down. We also heard the presentation on behalf of Longxi county about the actual situation of the project, and then we heard the Ms. Rhana Devenport introduced some public art projects in Gaps farm. It’s not only a place is for exhibiting art, but also played a very important role in our life. The speaker from "Public Art Review" magazine mentioned a very important concept---artist play an important role in the project. The last one gave us a speech about the situation in Japan. Overall, six speeches were very interesting. I learned a lot of things. "
Finally, Mr. John McCormack pointed out that in China people focus on the public quality of public art, which we should think about. Public art had a profound social impact in public space. If we would like to continue to promote the concept of “place making”, he believed the most important thing was keeping on discussion and thinking. |
