April 13, 2013 13:00 pm, " Post-Expo public art park " thematic forum was held at 2nd floor of Triumph Palace Hall of Gu Cun Park Hotel. The forum was chaired by professor Rong Nianzeng who is the Director of Hong Kong Institute of Contemporary Culture Center. American Artist, Bill FitzGibbons, made a presentation entitled:” Bill FitzGibbons’ view about public art works”.
He introduced some public art projects he took part in including "time blocking" in Alaska, San Antonio Park transformation, "Mother Earth's mysterious" and so on. He talked about the short and long-term public art works during the last 30 years including architectural intervention and high temperature sculpture performance. He discussed five countries’ public art projects including Iceland, Finland, Sweden and so on. He pointed out that works in the different places reflected the artist's philosophy and aesthetic manner. He discussed about how the public art as a creative place to impact economy and society of community.
FitzGibbons said: " Currently, art in designated places has become more and more popular. These arts foster the continuing sense of place for the public. They make public and private spaces much more active and revitalize the fixed environment again. People will get motivated and excited when they see these works. " |
