April 13, 2013 13:00 pm, " Post-Expo public art park " thematic forum was held at 2nd floor of Triumph Palace Hall of Gu Cun Park Hotel. The forum was chaired by Professor Rong Nianzeng who is the director of Hong Kong Institute of Contemporary Culture Center. Professor Lin Wenhai , Chairman of Department of Art, Tunghai University and professor Eric Troffkin from Wayne State University reviewed the speeches.
Professor Lin Wenhai commented: "After the Expo and Post-Expo are two completely different meaning. What we talk today is not the era of Post-Expo, but how we continue the Expo phenomenon after that and how we look upon it? In the forum, Professor Mao Zhuchen, Ding Yi, Dean Wang Zhong have made very good comments in critique of devastating city. The great value of reviews is to form a theory. "
Professor Lin Wenhai also mentioned about the evaluation of public art and legislative issues: "My understanding of public art evaluation, aesthetics evaluation should divide into different aspects including its environmental art aspect and idea aspect. The purpose of the evaluation is not to definite whether the public artwork is good or bad, but rather to raise our attention. Public art like our family, we can’t leave it alone when we finish it.
" It has been 20 years since 1992 when Taiwan started to set regulations for public art. But the subsequent maintenance mechanism is lack of concern. After the public art being done, no one will take care of it. There are maintenance management units, but nobody did great work. Every year there are twenty to thirty, even hundreds pieces of new works set up in Taiwan and now more than 2,000 pieces works have been registered in Taiwan. It’s necessary to maintain in the school and education circles in order to achieve sustainability. "
Wayne State University professor Eric Troffkin commented: " There are many ways of space transformation introduced today including public art planning of Expo Center. Professor Ding talked about permanent and temporary space installation, including some works specially dedicated to students, Professor Wang Zhong talked about his own art works. I am very interested in personal experience. Two works give me a very deep impression. One was people hand in hand to go through the tracks. The other one is dancing. "
"Some public art works can stimulate people feeling the space in a short time, which is the result of using public space to become their own space but beyond public art planning. Public art is not only a result of rational planning, but also is the way not to destroy rationals. |
