The Blue House was situated in a housing block villa in IJburg, Amsterdam. The house is a cobalt blue, three-storey town house situated in the centre of Housing Block 35. This property was re-established as a space for cultural activities, community research and artistic production. The site as a place for the unexpected, uncontrolled and unplanned.
The Blue House allowed it to situate itself as a platform from which research on how the new district and its community would take shape. It focused on exploring the way people use, appropriate and change public spaces. Invited practitioners conducted research, produced works of art, films and publications, and held presentations and other activities. These activities established a new infrastructure that was both descriptive and interventional in the everyday life of the area.
